On her 40th birthday, Kanye West presented his wife Kim Kardashian with the most extravagant and bizarre gift – a hologram of her late father Robert Kardashian speaking to her as if she were still alive.
“For my birthday I received the most beautiful gift of my life from Kanye. A special surprise from heaven,” Kardashian twittered. “A hologram of my father. It is so lifelike! We watched it over and over again full of emotion.”
The reality TV star showed a video of the talking hologram, which has since been seen more than five million times.

The late attorney Robert Kardashian died in 2003, two months after he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer.
The hologram says that it is “proud” of Kim and that it “watches” over her, her family and her children. It also names Kanye West himself as the “most brilliant, ingenious, ingenious, ingenious man in the whole world.
It is not surprising that the hologram gift has unleashed an endless wave of memes, hot takes and jokes as the world reacts to such a bizarre piece of pop culture.
For example, journalist David Itzkoff quoted Kardashian’s original tweet, but shared a photo of a still from Star Wars showing a hologram of Darth Vader.

I refuse to be turned into a hologram after my death. If my children want to see me, they must prepare my corpse like normal people.

The hologram circus takes place the same week that harsh criticism was levelled at the Kardashian family for taking a trip to a private island in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic.
She said the pandemic had helped her and her guests appreciate the “simple luxury” of celebrating on a private island, while urging that everyone attending the event take precautions to ensure they were virus-free.
“After conducting several health checks for two weeks and asking everyone to be quarantined, I surprised my closest inner circle with a trip to a private island where we could pretend for a brief moment that everything was normal,” Kardashian tweeted next to a selection of photos from the trip, with no mask in sight.
Her sister Khloe defended the trip this week when she appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show.
“I didn’t hear much about it, but I heard that people were upset that we all left town. I don’t really know how far that went,” Kardashian told DeGeneres. “But this year is a frustrating year,” Kardashian said. I understand that. I think there are so many frustrations for everyone. But it’s also her 40th, which is something she wanted to do for us. It was such a beautiful thing”…
