If you need a break from the stress of the election campaign or some entertainment while standing in line to vote, you should know that 80s musician Rick Astley shared a TikTok of himself dancing to his hit “Never Gonna Give You Up”. That’s right, the man himself effectively rolls the whole app RickRolling.

Astley posted the video on his TikTok on Tuesday morning when he danced the dance from the iconic music video for his 1987 debut single while the chorus of the song was playing. He also synchronized his corner of the popular video streaming app “RickTok”.

“I’m still not giving up on you. Welcome to RickTok,” he wrote in the video description, also using the following hashtags: “Back to the music, get your coat, RickTok.

By 12:07 EST, the video had been viewed 2.9 million times on TikTok and was liked over 668,000 times.

The RickRolling memo has been around since 2007, and it’s common knowledge that people send out links to the music video for “Never Gonna Give You Up” and pretend they’re links to something else.

TikTokkers on the app left comments, joked and was happy that the English musician managed to memorize everyone on the app. Astley replied to one user to confirm that she had indeed received RickRolled. “Did he just – oh my God,” she wrote. To which he replied, “Yes, he did.”

“POV: You have just been RickRollled by Rick Astley [sic]RickRollled,” says one of the top comments on the video.

TikTok star and musician Mr. Bruno celebrated the video. “Oh, my God. I’ve done it. I made it to RickTok,” he wrote.

Although this seems to be the first time Astley has RickRolled people on TikTok, it’s not his first video on the app. His only other video was shot in April. In this clip, the singer dances in a purple suit and rain boots while electrically washing two trash cans to Dua Lipa’s “Don’t Start Now”.

It is also not the first time Astley has addressed his audience from RickRolled. In 2008, he performed the song on a float during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, effectively providing RickRolled to all parade participants and those watching TV at home.

In 2017, Astley appeared at two Foo Fighters shows to perform a more distorted version of “Never Gonna Give You Up” with Dave Grohl and accompaniment. As previously reported, Astley showed his affinity for the blockbuster rock band during the quarantine. In April he released an acoustic cover of the band’s signature song, “Everlong”.

Although the prank is over 10 years old, people sometimes still manage to get the singer with the meme. In April, a Reddit user published a link to a photo of himself meeting the singer backstage at a show, just so that it is a link to the music video. Astley simply answered the user with the hand clapping emoji.

Astley’s label did not respond in time to the request for a comment on the release sent to Washington Newsday by e-mail.
