Reviews for ‘Fast & Furious 9’ Sequel Is Called “Ridiculously Exhilarating”
In the first round of ratings, reviewers praised Fast & Furious 9 (F9) as “ridiculously exhilarating.”
Dominic Toretto, played by Vin Diesel, takes center stage in the ninth installment of the series as he is confronted by his younger brother Jakob, played by John Cena.
Jakob, who was previously unknown to audiences, is enraged by his big brother’s actions and has devoted his life to training and eventually defeating him.
Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez), Magdalene Shaw (Helen Mirren), and Cipher are among the characters who will return from previous installments (Charlize Theron).
It will also feature a slew of new faces, including rapper Cardi B, who will play Leysa, a character with a past with Dom.
The film has received positive reviews for its “massive, noisy, exciting action.” However, the film was panned for a perceived lack of “freshness.”
Alonso Duralde of The Wrap praised the film for coming up with “fresh and exciting ways to put seemingly all of them [characters]out for their moment in the spotlight.”
“For audiences who want massive, noisy, thrilling action in their 2021 return to the multiplex, F9 lets the cars go fast, jump high, and generally do the impossible,” Duralde added. Yeah, it’s exhilaratingly crazy, but it’s also exhilaratingly ridiculous.”
“Gloriously unrealistic and stridently melodramatic, F9 is fueled by its own goofy energy, offering comically grandiose chase sequences and shameless fan service all in the name of giving viewers an uncomplicated good time,” said Tim Grierson of Screen International.
“As fast and furious as F9 races along, it can’t quite outrun the feeling that these films are losing some of their freshness,” Grierson said.
More on #F9 – Of all the Quick movies, this one might be the most self-aware. It knows what it is & it knows what its fans want it to be, & it embraces all of it – not just in spectacle, but in character conversations too.
