Mom Season 8 starts on Thursday (November 5) at 9:00 p.m. ET on CBS, but she will be without the lead actress Anna Farris as Christy. The House Bunny actor revealed that she will be leaving the sitcom in September, just before the show resumes.
According to her, Anna Faris left the show to focus on other opportunities. In a statement, the actor said, “The past seven years with Mom have been among the most fulfilling and rewarding of my career. I am so grateful to Chuck, the writers and my amazing acting colleagues for creating a truly wonderful work experience. As my journey as Christy comes to an end and I can pursue new opportunities, I will be watching the next season and keeping my fingers crossed for my TV family”.
Although the show will focus on what happened to her character in season 8’s debut, Faris is not expected to appear in the episode. This means that her last episode in the series Mama, Season 7, Episode 20, was “Big Sad Eyes and a Wrinkled Hot Dog”, which aired in April 2020.
Her departure from the series has surprised many. The actress was actually only halfway through her contract, which was to keep her on the show until the end of season eight.
At the time she announced her departure, a source reportedly told people: “It was sudden and unpleasant, and the entire network was in turmoil… This is not good at all.
Now her first post-mom project was announced. She will play the lead role and produce Summer Madness, an independent comedy in which she will play twins. However, her involvement in the project was announced in October 2019, months before she announced that she was leaving her mother, which was supposedly a quick and unexpected decision earlier this year.
In a TVLine interview, Mom co-creator Gemma Baker described what fans might expect from Christy’s departure from the series. “One of the nice things about recovery is that people’s lives often become bigger and better than they could have imagined,” said Baker. “And that will be the experience of Christy. We’re pretty sure that our audience, many of whom have been rooting for Christy since the pilot, will be happy for her and happy with her new path.
Meanwhile, in an Us Weekly podcast, actor Jamie Pressly said, “We’re still talking about the character Christy. Bonnie, the character of Allison Janney, is still talking to her on the phone and will pass on the things Christy does or says to us so we feel like she’s still there.
Mom Season 8 will air on CBS on Thursdays at 21:00 ET….
