Have New Seasons of ‘Chicago Fire,’ ‘PD,’ and ‘Med’ Been Renewed?
Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD all complete their seasons in May, leaving fans to worry if they would be renewed for Seasons 10, 7, and 9, respectively. On May 26, each of the three One Chicago events will come to a close, and the wait for the next installments of the series will begin.
Is it true that the One Chicago shows have been renewed?
All three shows, Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD, have been renewed for future seasons. NBC scheduled extra episodes of each season in February 2020.
Those who have been tracking the Wednesday night ratings on NBC will not be surprised by this renewal. The shows are presently NBC’s first, second, and third most-watched scripted dramas, with 7.3 million average weekly viewers for Med, 7.2 million for Fire, and 6.1 million for PD (Per TV Series Finale). The series are also the network’s second, third, and fourth most popular programmes overall, behind The Voice.
The Peacock Network has promised that none of the shows will be cancelled anytime soon, thanks to the franchise’s success. Each show has been renewed for three seasons by NBC, with Chicago Fire moving to Season 11, Chicago PD to Season 10, and Chicago Med to Season 8. This means that new episodes of the trilogy series will be broadcast on NBC until at least 2023.
This massive extension was made possible by a new contract NBC struck with Dick Wolf, the super-producer behind the One Chicago series and Law & Order: SVU, which was also renewed for three seasons. His Law & Order: Organized Crime was just renewed for a second season, and the network has commissioned For the Defense, a new Law & Order spin-off.
In 2020, then-NBC Entertainment chief Paul Telegdy remarked, “Dick Wolf has demonstrated time and time again that he creates series that fans enjoy.” “We are thrilled, ecstatic, and proud that, thanks to this historic agreement with Wolf Entertainment, NBC’s devoted viewers will know that their favorite shows will have a secure future for the next three years.”
As a result of these renewals, Wolf programs will get two days off in the NBC schedule for 2021-2022. The Chicago programs will continue to air on Wednesdays. The actual release dates, however, have yet to be determined. This is a condensed version of the information.
