Time of Adventure: Faraway Lands” is a series of four one-hour specials that are broadcast on HBO Max. The first of these specials was released in June and focused on BMO (spoken by Niki Yang), and now the streamer has revealed the release date and trailer for the second special, “Obsidian”.
This second special, to be released on HBO Max, will be released on November 19 and will focus on the stories of Princess Bubblegum (Hynden Walch) and Marceline the Vampire Queen (Olivia Olson). However, this news has caused some fans to wonder what happened to the former main characters of Adventure Time, Jake (John DiMaggio) and Finn (Jeremy Shada), and whether they died at the end of the show.
Fortunately for the fans of Finn and Jake, they will be back in one of the upcoming episodes of Faraway Lands. There are two more specials, one of them is called “Wizard City” and will be set in Peppermint Butler (Steve Little), and the other one is “Together Again”, where Finn and Jake will be the center of attention.
Talking to TVLine, Adventure Time: Distant Lands executive producer Adam Muto said about it: “It would have been hard not to do something substantial with Princess Bubblegum and Marceline and even Finn and Jake. If they hadn’t shown up at all, it would have felt like we weren’t quite connecting it to the main story”.
In HBO Max’s official summary for “Together Again,” it says, “Finn and Jake [reunite]to rediscover their brotherly bond and embark on the most important adventure of their lives.
This confirms that, unlike Finn and Jake’s short appearance in “BMO,” “Together Again” is scheduled after the events of the “Adventure Time” finale. The credits of this episode show that Finn and Jake survived the great battle and were seen sitting by the lake. Finn was seen without the mechanical arm he had lost, indicating that he was willing to give up the adventure for the time being.
On the poster for Faraway Lands, however, he is seen with a new mechanical arm, indicating that he is very much ready for a last adventure.
However, the couple is not expected to appear as cameo in “Obsidian” as in “BMO”. This was confirmed by Muto during the virtual Comic-Con panel at Adventure Time this year. Instead, a new character called Glassboy (Michaela Dietz) is introduced in this special, who “has elements of Finnish, if they were even more extreme”.
Adventure Time: Distant Lands returns to HBO Max on November 19 with “Obsidian”. Release dates for “Wizard City” and “Together Again” have not been announced, but are expected in 2021. All original episodes of “Abenteuer Zeit: Ferne Länder” will now be broadcast on Hulu and HBO Max.
