Emergency services were called to Conleach Road at 4:30 pm on Thursday after a collision with a child was reported.
A young boy was taken to hospital where he was knocked down and injured in Speke.
After the child was hit by a car this afternoon, the roads were closed.
The driver of the car stopped at the scene and is helping the police in their investigation, but witnesses are asked to come forward.
Roadblocks were quickly set up when paramedics took the child to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.
It is suspected that the three-year-old victim was hit by a Peugeot expert near the leisure center and playgrounds on the road.
“Emergency services were on the scene and the boy was taken to the hospital to assess his injuries, which at this stage are unlikely to be life-threatening.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “At present, officials are in Speke in the afternoon following a collision on Thursday 1st October.
“At 4.30pm it was reported that a Peugeot expert had collided with a three year old boy on Conleach Road.
“The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene of the accident to assist in the investigation.”
