When Michelle Buteau and Jennifer Lopez met, she pretended to know nothing about her — except for one thing they have in common.

Michelle Buteau has risen through the ranks of comedy over the last two decades to become one of the most successful modern comediennes on television. Buteau has dabbled in film and television in recent years, with roles in films and a hosting job on Netflix’s hit series The Circle.

The comedian discussed her experience filming a movie with none other than Jennifer Lopez in her 2020 stand-up comedy special Welcome to Buteaupia.

Michelle Buteau has made the transition from comedy to acting.

Michelle Buteau began stand-up comedy shortly after the September 11 attacks in New York. She practiced stand-up for five years before landing her first Comedy Central special.

Buteau kept working as a comedian, and in the 2010s, he started acting in scripted roles. What began as guest appearances on shows like Key and Peele and Russian Doll has grown into film roles in films like Someone Great, Always Be My Maybe, and Jennifer Lopez’s upcoming Valentine’s Day film Marry Me.

When Michelle Buteau and Jennifer Lopez met, she claimed to know little about her.

In her Welcome to Buteaupia special, Buteau told the tale of how she met Lopez on the set of Marry Me.

Buteau admitted, “The hardest part of working with J. Lo is pretending that I don’t know anything there is to know about her.” “I know everything there is to know about J. Lo. I know we share the same birthday, for example. But I didn’t want to tell her the first day because I didn’t want to be the creepy girl on set, you know?

“But there’s still someone at work who’s into astrology — you know who you are,” she joked, drawing laughter from the audience. “So one of those a**holes was on… This is a condensed version of the plot. I hope you found it entertaining.
