What Is Joseph Fiennes’ Net Worth From ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’?

Fans of Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale will recognize Joseph Fiennes, who plays Commander Fred Waterford on the famous show. Prior to the film’s success, Fiennes had a number of film and television appearances. Two of his sisters are directors, and his brother, Ralph Fiennes, is best known for playing Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter films. How much is he worth, given his achievements?

Fiennes’ beginnings and early career

In Shakespeare in Love, Joseph Fiennes is the most attractive thing in the world to me, but now I can’t look at him without thinking of that jerk from The Handmaid’s Tale. It’s been ruined. https://twitter.com/XxwgXzrPJV/pic.twitter.com/XxwgXzrPJV/pic.twitter

Before taking to the stage in London’s West End, Fiennes studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He also worked for a brief time with the Royal Shakespeare Company before making his film debut in 1996’s Stealing Beauty. Following that, he worked on two critically acclaimed period plays, Elizabeth and Shakespeare in Love, according to IMDb.

According to co-star Gwyneth Paltrow, his portrayal of William Shakespeare in the film almost didn’t happen. Harvey Weinstein decided to replace Fiennes with another big-name star, she told Harpers Bazaar. “At the last minute, Harvey wanted Ben Affleck to take over and play Shakespeare,” but Paltrow balked at the idea. “I said, ‘No, you can’t do that. You have to have an English person.”

Whether true or not, the role earned Fiennes a slew of award nominations and established him as a Hollywood heavyweight. From there, he continued to work regularly, making splashes with his role in ABC’s FlashForward and FX’s terror-inducing American Horror Story: Asylum.
