Tom Hiddleston, star of Marvel’s The Avengers, Talks About Playing a Character Who Isn’t Loki.
Marvel fans adore a good comeback tale. But no character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has switched sides as often as Loki (Tom Hiddleston). In the role, the actor quickly became a fan favorite, but he did play a very different MCU character for a brief time. With the upcoming Disney+ series Loki, Hiddleston reflected on his previous role as another Marvel mainstay.
In 2011, Tom Hiddleston debuted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the film ‘Thor.’
The MCU is now one of the most successful film franchises of all time. During Phase 1, Marvel Studios, on the other hand, was careful to take it slowly. The first few films focused solely on gathering the main Avengers. It was difficult to get people to care for Iron Man and Captain America, who were not common icons at the time. Thor, on the other hand, presented a more challenging challenge.
After all, the 2011 film marked the MCU’s first foray into the cosmos. Fans could never have seen the Guardians of the Galaxy or Captain Marvel on screen if it had failed. Furthermore, Thor’s hero and villain are two relative unknowns. As Thor and Loki, Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston delivered, and the MCU has relied on them ever since.
MCU Fans Can’t Imagine ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ Without Tom Hiddleston’s Loki
The actor had a brief role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a somewhat different character.
Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will recall that Hiddleston first auditioned for the role of Thor. Despite the fact that he never played Thor during filming, the actor did play another Avenger for a short time. In Thor: The Dark World, Loki taunts Thor by impersonating Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, Captain America uniform and all. Hiddleston had the opportunity to play the star-spangled man on the set of the film.
“[That] was a very strange and surreal moment, nevertheless enjoyable,” Hiddleston told Entertainment Weekly. “So I got to feel whatever the feeling of wearing that suit [is],… This is a condensed version of the plot. I hope you found it entertaining.
