The Novel ‘The Talented Mr. Ripley’ Holds the Secrets of ‘Cruel Summer’

Jamie revealed in Cruel Summer that the video is a voicemail from Christmas Eve 1993, just a few months after Kate vanished. Jeanette heard breathing and a song playing in the background when he played the unusual recording. The voicemail jolted her awake, and she bolted from Jamie’s garage. Someone breathing deeply and a music box playing in the background is the tape in Cruel Summer.

The snow globe and the tape

After hearing the tape in Cruel Summer, Jeanette headed straight to Mallory Higgins’ house. She demanded the snow globe from Mallory. Mallory, on the other hand, lied and stated she no longer had it. Then she discovered a snow globe hidden in a box beneath her bed and turned on the music box. It was, indeed, the identical tune that viewers had heard on the cassette.

Jeanette stands in front of Martin’s house around Christmas time in the Cruel Summer Episode 9 trailer since there is a holiday wreath on the door.
