Jacobs, a native of Pennsylvania, was born in the city of Pittsburgh in 1982. Jacobs was involved in acting since he was a child and started taking lessons at the Pittsburgh Playhouse. When it came time for Jacobs to go to college, he chose Juilliard, a prestigious art school in New York.

Jacobs made her acting debut in the 2005 film Building Girl, playing Katie. This would be the first of several positions she would play. Jacobs was cast as Adele Congreve in The Book of Daniel the following year. In the late 2000s, the actress worked on a number of television shows and films before landing her big break in 2010.
