Stranger Things fans have been waiting for new episodes for nearly two years. The series last aired in July 2019 and ended with Jim Hopper (David Harbour) sacrificing himself to save Hawkins. He had been in the lab with Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) when he was caught in the explosion that closed the hole to the Upside Down, seemingly killing him. But it has since been revealed that he survived.
As the production of Stranger Things season 4 continues, the series has released a new teaser trailer that goes back to the time when Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) was with Dr. Brenner (Matthew Modine) and his other supernatural children. The clip reminded some viewers of past social media posts allegedly shared by Harbour, with some speculating that they are hints of what’s to come.

The trailer, released on May 6, shows the inside of the Rainbow Room in Dr. Brenner’s lab. The clip shows several children engaged in various activities before Dr. Brenner enters the room and begins his lesson for the day. The camera then pans out of the room and down the hallway to a door labeled “11.”
“Eleven, are you listening?” Dr. Brenner is heard saying before Eleven’s face appears on screen.
‘Stranger Things 4’ teaser: fans disappointed, suspect return of a main villain
The clip made fans think of David Harbour’s alleged past social media posts
After watching the trailer, fans began to speculate what it meant. The scene, which shows two nearly identical babies crawling on the floor together, particularly caught the eye of one fan, who shared on Reddit that Harbour had allegedly previously posted several Instagram photos of different sets of twins. That sparked a big theory about Eleven and her siblings.
“Woah what if 11 is a clone? 1 and 1,” one person wrote in the comments section, to which another replied, “I know, right. That would be crazy!”
“Definitely a clone. Touching on the Alien franchise once again,” read another comment, while another person speculated that Eleven could be a “twin.”
But another reader dismissed those theories, saying the babies are “definitely twins 9 and 9.5 from the comics.”

‘Stranger Things’: is there really an “Eleven” spinoff?
We’re not sure what that means – if anything. What we do know, however, is that season four will be the “darkest” season yet, according to actor Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler). As he previously told CBC Radio’s Q:
“With each season, it gets darker. Really, I would say that with Season 3, I thought that was the darkest season there was ever going to be, like the rats exploding and everything. But really, season 4 so far is the darkest season ever. Every year it gets darker. Every year it gets funnier and darker and sadder and everything. Every year they amp it up.”
There is no official release date yet for Stranger Things season 4, as of writing. But Wolfhard also said it might not come out until 2022.
