Sofia Vergara in ‘Modern Family’ Her Least Favorite Part of Filming Was Once Revealed: ‘I Hate [It]’
Sofia Vergara’s success as an actor was aided by her appearance in Modern Family. Gloria Pritchett, the spunky, optimistic Colombian wife of Jay Pritchett, was played by Vergara. Though the cast of the program became extremely close while filming and frequently expressed how much they enjoyed their professions and roles, there was one aspect of filming that Vergara despised.
The cast of ‘Modern Family’ evolved into a real-life family.
When Modern Family first aired in 2009, it quickly became one of the most popular sitcoms of the decade. Fans witnessed the cast members mature over the course of the show’s 11 seasons, from seeing Alex Dunphy reach her full potential to witnessing Haley Dunphy find her calling.
The families were all linked through Claire and Mitchell Pritchett’s father, Jay Pritchett. Despite the fact that none of the cast members were connected off-screen, they formed into a family over the course of a dozen years of filming. The ensemble was filled with emotions and loving thoughts for each other after the show ended in 2020.
Throughout it all, though, Sofia Vergara had one filming snafu that she couldn’t get beyond.

Sofia Vergara confessed that she detested working with Stella, the Pritchetts’ French bulldog.
Sofia Vergara loved playing Gloria Pritchett on the program, but she didn’t agree with every decision made by the producers. And when Gloria and Jay decided to get a family pet, Vergara was not on board.
Gloria and Jay’s dog, Stella, were not Vergara’s favorites, according to an interview at Paleyfest. Vergara’s character was intended to enjoy the puppy at first, according to Modern Family creator Christopher Lloyd, but Vergara’s real-life reaction couldn’t be hidden.
Vergara admitted, “I despise dogs.”
“Sofia’s a wonderful actor, but she’s not that good of an actor that she’s gonna be… This is a condensed version of the narrative. I hope you found it entertaining.
