Season 6 of ‘This Is Us’: What’s Next for Deja and Malik?
The Season 5 finale of This Is Us threw a couple significant curveballs, but it also hinted fresh storylines as the Pearson family prepares for the sixth and final season. Many viewers were drawn to one scene in particular because it hinted that something will happen between Deja (Lyric Ross) and Malik (Asante Blackk). The Future Flash-Forward Scene in the Season 5 Finale of ‘This Is Us’ Is Explained
The NBC show This Is Us briefly addressed Deja and Malik’s relationship in Season 5. Janelle’s birth mother, Jennifer, expressed interest in returning to her daughter’s life in episode 10, “I’ve Got This.” Then, in episode 14, “The Music and the Mirror,” Deja disclosed that she and her partner were having an affair.
Deja informed Randall, “I’ve got some stuff on my plate with this entire Malik problem” (Sterling K. Brown). She also confirmed that Jennifer’s homecoming had something to do with it.
Despite this, even in the Season 5 finale of This Is Us, the Deja and Malik scenario was not addressed. The episode, however, revealed yet another stumbling block in the couple’s relationship.
Annie (Faithe Herman) asked Deja if she’d ever marry Malik as the Pearsons prepared for Kevin’s (Justin Hartley) and Madison’s (Caitlin Thompson) wedding. Then Deja suggested she’s been thinking about her future with her boyfriend.
“Annie, are you crazy? I’m not even thinking about that nonsense. I’m not even thinking that, you know, we’ll get married one day in his future Michelin star restaurant,” Deja said and laughed.
But the This Is Us finale later revealed a long-distance relationship was more likely in the near future. Midway through the episode, Malik called Deja and shared that he got into every school he applied to.
“I went five for five,” Malik said. “I didn’t tell anybody this. But I applied to Harvard. I got into Harvard, too,… This story is a short summary. Hope you enjoyed.
