Reel Suspects, the French distribution company, has secured the rights to the Dominican romantic drama Interior Apartment Day (Interior Apartamento Día) ahead of its premiere at the 2026 International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR). Directed by the Dominican duo Laura Amelia Guzmán and Israel Cárdenas, the film will screen in the Harbour section, showcasing contemporary cinema.

    Story of Love and Conflict

Set in Santo Domingo, the film follows a creative couple, played by Maia Otero and Juliano Kunert, as they navigate the pressures of freelance life and a promising job opportunity. As the couple balances their work commitments with their personal relationship, unexpected conflicts arise, threatening the stability of their love.

Interior Apartment Day was first unveiled at the 2025 São Paulo International Film Festival and has garnered attention for its exploration of modern relationships and the challenges freelancers face. The film is produced by Dominican companies Lantica Studios, Purpleline Productions, and Aurora Dominicana.

The film marks a return to the IFFR for Guzmán and Cárdenas, who are no strangers to the festival. In 2023, they were producers for Guzmán’s debut solo project La Hembrita and Pablo Chea’s Chroma Kid. The directing duo previously presented their film Sand Dollars at IFFR in 2015.

As Interior Apartment Day gains traction at the festival, Reel Suspects will also present a diverse lineup at the upcoming European Film Market (EFM). Among the other films featured are Love Kills, a Brazilian vampire romance, Bodyhackers, a Portuguese body horror, and Life For Beginners, a Polish vampire debut.
