Prince ‘Saved’ Apollonia While Filming Iconic Lake Minnetonka Scene in ‘Purple Rain’
Prince fans commemorated what would have been the musician’s 63rd birthday on June 7. Sheila E. and Alicia Keys paid respect to the late artist, and Alicia Keys revealed a wonderful tale about working with him at Paisley Park.
Even though Prince is best known for his musical abilities, no one can forget his debut picture, Purple Rain. He won an Oscar for the film, which had several memorable scenes, including a few with his co-star Apollonia Kotero. She once remarked that he “saved” her during filming the Lake Minnetonka sequence.
In the film ‘Purple Rain,’ Apollonia Kotero portrays Prince’s love interest.
Purple Rain was released in 1984 and followed The Kid (Prince), a young Minneapolis musician with lofty ambitions and a tumultuous home situation. When he meets Apollonia (Apollonia Kotero), a newbie, they embark on a stormy romance that would change his life forever. Off-screen, Apollonia’s performance catapulted her into the spotlight, and many fans assumed she and Prince were dating in real life.
The two had a synergy that drew in the crowds. “The charismatic Prince and breathtakingly stunning Apollonia Kotero as his love interest are (in the best traditions of musicals) a pair you root for,” The Hollywood Reporter enthused when Purple Rain hit theaters.
Among the most famous scenes between Prince and Apollonia are their motorbike trips, spats, the SLAP, and performances from Apollonia 6. Most fans, though, will never forget The Kid tricking her into going into the lake.
In ‘Darling Nikki,’ Prince Hid a Secret Backwards Message.
During the filming of ‘Purple Rain,’ Apollonia developed hypothermia.
Kotero spoke about her participation in Purple Rain in an interview with Minneapolis’ Local The Current in 2013. She knew she’d have to strip when she got the part, and she knew she’d have to… This is a condensed version of the narrative. I hope you found it entertaining.
