MONSTA X are set to release their mini-album One Of A Kind on June 1. The EP will be the K-pop group’s first Korean comeback in 2021 and their first Korean album since the release of their studio album Fatal Love in 2020.
Starship Entertainment announced on May 3 that MONSTA X member Shownu will not participate in promotions for One Of A Kind due to health complications.
MONSTA X to release new EP in June
MONSTA X made their debut with Starship Entertainment in 2015. With Wonho leaving the band in 2019, the group currently consists of six members, Shownu, Minhyuk, Kihyun, Hyungwon, Joohoney, and I.M.
On May 1, the K-pop group announced on social media that One Of A Kind will be released on June 1. To announce the EP, MONSTA X shared a teaser photo showing the six members looking at the camera with blue sky in the background.

NU’EST return with their full-length album ‘Romanticize’
Starship Entertainment released a statement via MONSTA X member Shownu.
After announcing the comeback, Starship Entertainment shared details about Shownu with Monbebe, the band’s fanbase. According to the label, Shownu was previously diagnosed with a detached retina in his left eye, after which he underwent surgery in July 2020.
“The surgery was successful and since then, Shownu has had his eyes checked regularly to prevent recurrence as the medical condition is not easy to heal completely,” Starship Entertainment wrote in a statement.
While the surgery was a success, Starship Entertainment told MONSTA X fans that Shownu developed a complication while preparing for One Of A Kind.
“Recently, Shownu felt discomfort in his eye due to being exposed to excessive light while preparing for the upcoming MONSTA X album. He immediately visited the hospital for an examination and received proper medical treatment,” the statement reads.

TXT will release their studio album ‘The Chaos Chapter: FREEZE’ in May
After being diagnosed with the complication, it was recommended that Shownu “take a considerable period of rest to avoid a relapse and further deterioration.”
Shownu will not participate in the K-pop group’s comeback promotion.
Since Shownu needs to take time off to recover, he will not participate in the promotions for One Of A Kind with the members of MONSTA X.
Starship Entertainment concluded the statement by announcing that Shownu will be taking time off from the group and wrote:
“First and foremost, Starship Entertainment values the health of our artists. After careful discussions with all members of MONSTA X, including Shownu himself, we have come to the conclusion that Shownu will be taking time off and will not be participating in the upcoming official promo activities for MONSTA X’s 9th season.
Therefore, MONSTA X will continue with the official promo activities with the rest of the 5 members until further notice. We ask for your understanding as we plan to flexibly decide on Shownu’s future participation based on consultation with Shownu’s medical specialists.
Currently, Shownu is resting and Starship Entertainment will take the best measures for his speedy recovery.”
MONSTA X will release One Of A Kind on June 1.
