Is the Live-Action Series of ‘The Powerpuff Girls’ Cancelled?

The news on The Powerpuff Girls live-action series isn’t good after months of waiting. The CW project, dubbed Powerpuff, will not be included in the network’s upcoming fall schedule in 2021. Those concerned that it would be cancelled before it had aired need not be concerned. What’s going on with the TV show is as follows.

Cartoon Network’s animated series ‘The Powerpuff Girls’

The Powerpuff Girls first aired on Cartoon Network in 1998. Blossom, Buttercup, and Bubbles, three girls formed in a lab, were the stars of the animated series. Professor Utonium wanted to make a perfect child by combining sugar, spice, and everything good, but an accident involving Chemical X resulted in the three gaining superpowers.

The Emmy-winning series ran for six seasons before being cancelled in 2005. It was a formative program for kids growing up at the time, particularly girls. Because of its sarcastic nature and tongue-in-cheek humor, it appealed to adults as well, as did other similar shows of the time.

In 2020, The CW has ordered a live-action series.

With reboots and revivals of established IPs at an all-time high, it seemed like a no-brainer to bring back the Powerpuff Girls in the 2020s. The CW accepted, but this time went with a more mature approach — and live-action to boot. This concept was most likely sparked by the network’s success with Riverdale, a show based on the Archie Comics.

In August 2020, Variety announced the reboot. “In the new version of the film, the titular superheroes are now disillusioned twentysomethings who regret having lost their childhood to crime-fighting,” according to the synopsis. Will they agree to reunite now, more than ever, when the world needs them?”

The series ‘The Powerpuff Girls’ is due to be reworked.

Updates on the CW Pilot:

‘Tom Swift,’ a spinoff of #NancyDrew, is also in the works.

‘Our Brooklyn Ladies’ &… This is a condensed version of the plot. I hope you found it entertaining.
