How Cameron Diaz is the only one who lets Drew Barrymore sleep in her bed

Certain friendships are so pure that they stand the test of time. Celebrity friendships can be difficult to maintain, as scheduling conflicts are the order of the day. But despite their busy schedules, Hollywood stars Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz have been close friends for years. In fact, Diaz is the only person who lets Barrymore sleep in her bed.

Though the two have worked together on films, they met when Barrymore was 14 and working in a Beverly Hills coffee shop. Diaz was 16 and modeling at the time.

“You know, she was actually 16 and I was 14 when we became friends,” Barrymore said in a 2013 interview with Katie Couric. “I served her coffee and we had mutual friends and we just knew each other from around town.”

However, their friendship didn’t really blossom until 2000, when Barrymore asked Diaz to star in the reboot of “Charlie’s Angels.”

“I called her and said, ‘Listen, I have this great idea. I know exactly how I want to do it. It’s Charlie’s Angels,'” she said. “I said, ‘Come play with me,’ and she said, ‘Yes!”‘

Diaz was one of the special guests on Barrymore’s birthday episode of ‘The Drew Barrymore Show.’ During the show, Barrymore explained that she and Diaz call each other “Poo Poo.”

“It started out as classic boy humor, and it evolved into a real pet name. And then it just stuck…we love it…. it’s never going to change,” Barrymore said.

“If we’re in a restaurant, she’ll say to the waiter, ‘Ask Poo Poo what she wants.’ And people will be like, ‘What?” We call each other Poo Poo. I call her Poo Poo. She’s saved in my phone as Poo Poo,” Cameron added.

Cameron Diaz is the only one who can sleep with Drew Barrymore

Barrymore famously likes to sleep alone. But after a bad breakup led to Diaz sleeping on Barrymore’s floor and holding the actress’ hand, an exception was made.

“I don’t like co-sleeping with anyone; it’s a thing,” Barrymore said. “I don’t know why, but it’s my thing. If it’s a lover, then of course that’s different, but no friends. I sleep in a bathtub, I’ve slept on a pool table – whatever – but this one…. oh my god. We lived together for a while, were roommates. I’ve slept in a tent while my fever broke, on a Chilean mountain in a thunderstorm, in Patagonia, for example. I mean, yeah, we’ve been everywhere together.”

Do Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore still hang out together?

Although the two are very busy – Barrymore with her movies and show and Diaz with her kids – Barrymore and Diaz always make time for each other.

“We’ve spent so many birthdays together. We usually manage to be really together. … We’re not big gift givers, we’re more about experiences, so we always try to go somewhere and do something with the girls and be together. Cooking, eating, hanging out and staying up all night and just having the best time,” Diaz said.

Diaz also got emotional when talking about how much she loved Barrymore.

“Truly, one of the greatest joys of my life is our friendship,” she said. “When I think of you, I will literally cry because I just think you’re so special, and celebrating you is the absolute – every year, it’s one of my favorite times of the year … being able to celebrate you.”

Diaz wasn’t the only one who had those feelings.

“You’ve made me a better person my whole life. And you’ve been with me through everything. Ugly, beautiful, loss, life, birth,” Barrymore said. “The fact that you love me means more than anything because you know every little thing about me. I love you!”
