The renowned chef Giada De Laurentiis recently released a healthy eating book that includes a full menu of recipes, tips, and even a three-day reboot cleanse. While the Food Network star has shifted her attention to “clean” eating, she refuses to forego flavor. De Laurentiis, an Italian chef, has a long list of “superfoods” that she incorporates into her dishes on a daily basis to boost the flavor of each dish.

In her book Eat Better, Feel Better: My Recipes for Wellness and Healing, Inside and Out, De Laurentiis explains why “superfood” has become the new buzzword in nutrition.
“In recent years, the term ‘superfood’ has become overused,” De Laurentiis said. “The truth is that no single food has the amazing capacity to keep us alive and well… Some have more of certain nutrients that we all need, such as omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants, than others. However, the amount of food you’d have to consume to get a significant edge would be unappealing.”
De Laurentiis explains why she chose the items on her “superfoods” list, which includes many that she grew up with in the Mediterranean.
“Superfoods, in my perspective, are ingredients that make something taste, smell, or look amazing,” she remarked. “They do it in such a way that the gut balance you’re trying to maintain isn’t disturbed. Many of these are straight from the Italian pantry, which is no surprise given that experts all over the world consider the Mediterranean diet to be the healthiest.” According to Giada De Laurentiis, this region of Italy is the most undervalued in terms of gastronomy.
