Fans Want More Lupita Nyong’o in ‘Wakanda Forever’ – ‘I Want Okoye to Be the New Black Panther’
Marvel recently released a teaser trailer to whet fans’ appetites for the forthcoming Phase Four films. The title of the new Black Panther film, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, was revealed in that preview.
The tragic death of Chadwick Boseman threw the film’s production into disarray, but that hasn’t stopped director Ryan Coogler from moving on to honor his memory. Fans are now debating who should play the next Black Panther, with some predicting Lupita Nyong’o.
How Chadwick Boseman’s tragic death impacted the MCU
Boseman’s death was significant not because of the character he left behind, but because of the man himself. He had a loving family, as well as legions of fans who adored his work both inside and outside the MCU.
However, Boseman was the leading man in a big motion picture series, and his death forced Marvel to make difficult decisions. They ultimately chose not to recast T’Challa and decided to retire the character. As a result, writer-director Ryan Coogler had to rethink his plans for Black Panther 2. He rewrote the script and decided to go ahead with it despite the fact that he would lose his star.
Martin Freeman, who starred in the first film and will reprise his role in the sequel, told SyFy that Coogler has a plan for the next film, even though it isn’t entirely clear at the moment:
“He meticulously guided me through the film while adding the beats of my character. Some of it was strange, and he could tell by the expression on my face as he said those things…. He kept stopping and… saying, ‘Stay with me, this is going to work.’ We haven’t done it yet, after all. What are the chances? It’s possible that we’ll ruin it. But I’m hoping we won’t, and I’m hoping people will be surprised.”
