German sales company Epsilon Film has secured the global sales rights to the upcoming family animation film Skip, marking a significant addition to its growing slate of animated projects. The film, produced by Hamburg-based animation studio Ulysses Filmproduktion, will be introduced to buyers at the upcoming European Film Market (EFM) in Berlin next month.
Produced by Ulysses’ Sonja Matthes and Emely Christians, Skip is being developed by director Toby Genkel, with a screenplay co-written by Genkel, Rob Sprackling, Keiron Self, and Giles New. The project, which was showcased at Cartoon Movie last summer, was one of the top 10 most talked-about projects at the event, generating considerable attention from potential buyers.
Story and Production Details
The film follows the adventures of Skip, a witty and quick-talking rabbit, who finds himself caught in the criminal empire of Walzer, a merciless white rat. Set in a colorful animal underworld, the film combines humor with high-energy action, highlighting themes of bravery and heroism. Studio Rakete, known for its work on productions like The Amazing Maurice and Stitch Head, is handling the animation for Skip.
According to Epsilon Film, the movie is designed to entertain families with its bold, irreverent tone, while also delivering a positive message: true heroism comes not from superpowers but from the courage to do what is right.
“We knew from the start that we needed a strong international partner to bring this story to the world stage,” said Ulysses’ Emely Christians. “Our goal is to make films that not only entertain but also offer meaningful lessons for audiences of all ages.”
This marks one of several collaborations between Epsilon Film and Ulysses Filmproduktion. The two companies are also working together on The Amazing Maurice 2 and Mimi and Harold – Out of Frame.
Epsilon Film, launched at the 2024 Berlinale by Alice von Einem and Julia Weber, specializes in family films and animated features. In addition to Skip, its current portfolio includes adaptations of Michael Ende’s Momo, the Sky UK production Robin and the Hoods, and several installments in The School of Magical Animals series.
