‘Cruel Summer’: A Bike Switch-up in the Christmas Scene Sounds Like It Might Bring a Big Theory to Life in the Finale

[Warning: major Cruel Summer spoilers ahead through episode 9].

Summer may be getting hotter, but Cruel Summer is drawing to a close. Even so, the series’ fan theories and anticipation haven’t died down. It’s just going to grow hotter till the conclusion next week. Kate Wallis’ visit at Martin Harris’ residence received a lot of context in Episode 9, including the terrible moment she and Jeanette almost collided. However, the bikes in this image reveal more about who else was present on that night.

Jeanette and Mallory have two distinct bicycles.

According to Olivia Holt, this one scene in the finale of ‘Cruel Summer’ is “going to really change everything.”

Because Cruel Summer is set in the 1990s and the most of the main characters are 15 at the time, it’s only natural that Jeanette and her pals ride their bikes a lot in 1993. You know, like a typical adolescent.

Jeanette, Mallory, and Vince all have their own bikes, and while they appear unremarkable, Mallory’s does have one distinguishing feature: a card is tied to the spoke on her wheel, making a clipping sound while she cycles. There have been close-ups in several trailers and other pictures, highlighting this as well.

One moment in particular emphasizes Kate’s observation of Jeanette riding away on Mallory’s bike. When Jeanette and her friends prank the Wallis’s party with balloons in 1993, the teens flee hurriedly, and Mallory steals Jeanette’s bike in the process. Kate dashes out the door and locks eyes with Jeanette as she climbs upon Mallory’s bike, forcing Jeanette to flee.

If you look closely at the snow globe scenario with Jeanette and Kate, you’ll notice that Kate doesn’t see Jeanette’s bike.
