“Avatar: Fire and Ash” is still the biggest movie in theaters. The film stayed at No.1 in North America for the third weekend in a row and has now passed $1 billion at the global box office.

According to BoxOfficeMojo, movies in North America made over $130 million during the January 2–4 weekend. This is lower than last week, but higher than the same time last year. Thanks to “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” the box office has stayed above $100 million for three weekends in a row.

Since it opened on December 19, 2025, “Avatar: Fire and Ash” has led the box office almost every day. It made about $40 million this weekend alone. The movie has now earned over $300 million in North America and around $1.08 billion worldwide.

Disney’s “Zootopia 2” continues to do very well. Even though it is playing in fewer theaters, it still made about $19 million and stayed in second place. The movie has now earned about $364 million in North America and $1.58 billion worldwide, doing better than the first film.

The thriller “The Housemaid” came in third with about $14.8 million for the weekend. Its total box office is now over $92 million worldwide.

“Marty Supreme,” starring Timothée Chalamet, took fourth place with around $12.5 million. The movie continues to get good reviews and has made about $58 million so far.

The music drama “Song Sung Blue,” starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, made about $5.8 million in its second weekend and now has around $30 million in total.

The family movie “The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants” also had a good weekend. It made about $8.2 million and has now passed $100 million in total.

Experts say the strong results from “Avatar: Fire and Ash” and family movies show that 2026 has started well for the movie business.
