After months of speculation, acclaimed director Lokesh Kanagaraj confirmed on January 26, 2026, that talks with Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan regarding a highly anticipated superhero film have come to a close. The announcement brought an official end to the long-running rumors about the collaboration, which had sparked excitement across the Indian film industry and among fans alike.

    Official Confirmation of the End

The confirmation came during a press conference in Chennai, where Lokesh candidly addressed the media. “Talks with Aamir have fallen off,” he stated, explaining that while he had been in discussions with Khan about the project, the collaboration had not materialized. He expressed admiration for the actor, adding, “I have been a big Aamir Khan fan since my childhood. We met many times and were discussing a project, but things didn’t work out. I hope to work with him in the future.”

The possibility of the collaboration had generated significant buzz after Aamir Khan himself acknowledged that talks were underway. The partnership between Khan, known for his versatility, and Lokesh, celebrated for his high-octane action films, had fans eagerly awaiting the project. However, the excitement gradually turned into uncertainty as months passed without official updates, with speculation growing that the talks had stalled.

    Lokesh’s Future Plans Amidst Setbacks

The recent news comes amid a challenging period for Lokesh Kanagaraj. Despite his previous success with the Rajinikanth-starrer Coolie, which earned over ₹500 crores at the box office, the film faced harsh criticism and online trolling. Some speculated that this backlash contributed to his being dropped from a planned Rajinikanth-Kamal Haasan reunion film, although these rumors were swiftly dismissed by Aamir Khan’s team, who clarified that the criticism had not influenced the breakdown of their talks.

Despite the setbacks, Lokesh has maintained a level-headed approach. “The criticism made me think a lot,” he remarked, acknowledging the need to listen to audiences’ expectations and refine his future projects. He emphasized that it would be “unfair to accept only the praise” and that “if people criticize something, we need to accept it.”

Looking forward, Lokesh Kanagaraj is shifting focus to new projects, including his acting debut in Arun Matheswaran’s DC, where he stars alongside Wamiqa Gabbi. He also has a cameo role in Vijay’s Jana Nayagan, which is awaiting censor board clearance. Additionally, Lokesh’s next directorial venture, a superhero film titled AA23 featuring Allu Arjun, is generating excitement among audiences.

Despite the end of his collaboration with Aamir Khan, Lokesh remains optimistic. He continues to learn from his past experiences, aiming for a more transparent promotional approach and a deeper connection with his audience. As for the possibility of working with Khan in the future, Lokesh concluded, “I hope that collaboration might still happen one day.”
