A Star of the Show ‘Empire’ Has Been Sentenced to Jail Time

Gray, commonly known as Yazz The Greatest or Yazz, is a Philadelphia entertainer who was born in the city. In the FOX primetime show Empire, he played Hakeem Lyon, the youngest son of the famed Lyon family.

He was nominated for two NAACP Image Awards, three Teen Choice Awards, and one BET Award for his portrayal on Empire.
Since his Empire debut, his acting career has taken off. In the 2017 BET miniseries The New Edition Story, Gray plays Michael Bivins. He also appeared in Honey: Rise Up and Dance with Teyana Taylor, as well as the indie drama Canal Street.

Gray was apprehended in July 2020 after a standoff with an Arizona SWAT unit. Officers responded to a call to aid a lady who claimed Gray had abused her for hours, according to the Arizona Police Department.
Officers noted the woman’s body was covered in obvious injuries. She claimed to be Gray’s wife and claimed that he strangled her so hard that she lost consciousness during the alleged assault.
